Welcome to the Tavern Lantern.
Bar’s open. Grab a drink; pull up a stool.
Mind if I smoke? I love a good cigar. I love the way that smoke swirls around the solitary, dim bulb dangling up there when I exhale. That yellowish light filtering through the haze really sets the ambience in this old tavern. Did you know this place is so old, the original builder used real wood? Aye. Oak. Run your fingers along the table. Feel how smooth it is. Dig your nails into the jagged grooves where someone carved his name. Get comfortable here.
This is where we talk. Just you and me. No elegantly decorated mixed drinks while we discuss the vivacious literary style of James Joyce. No suit or tie while we clink our martinis at an upturned nose “scholarly” book release party. Just you, me, a couple pints of cold brew, and an ashtray here where I can rest my Churchill. If beer isn’t your thing, I’m sure we can muster up some cranberry juice. Either way, we’re here and free to talk in a conversational tone.
What is Tavern Lantern? It’s a “news blog” for Literary Orphans. It’s a place where we post the bits and pieces of news with what’s going on behind the curtain. We’ll also post the occasional review here – books, movies, etc. The same rule applies for “off the cuff” interviews with aspiring writers and artists. This is where we speak, and it’s where guest writers can speak, to the Literary Orphans community. It’s as much for us as it is for all of you, all you wonderful people who’ve made this online literary magazine the lively hub that it has become.
Simply put, Tavern Lantern is our little nook, our little corner of the bar to share things with each other without the pesky business of waiting for another issue to make it official. It’s a way to stay active in the downtime between releases. Keep an eye on this section. We aim to keep it jivin’.
Drinks are on the house,
