Update on the Literary Orphans’ ‘Trans-Oceanic: Ink’ book…. After much agonising over the last week there was a last minute tweak and I turned the long-awaited ‘nuts’ into a ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. Yes, this has been a unique and emotional experience.

It was a week of feverish scribbling and hand cramps survived by chocolate consumption (Thank you Gill Hoffs). The last minute title change was infinitely necessary, if only to be able to make a silly pun at the top of this post.

I was tasked with creating a story that focused on a place to which I have a connection. I chose Worcester and the project returned me to a place I left 10 years ago, where I lived through some difficult times during my childhood and teenage years. A place that shaped me as a person. I hope I managed to give a colourful and personal glimpse of England through my portrayal of Worcester; its city and people. Others may not see it as I do, but I tried to paint a portrait of the contradictions I felt that trapped, dazzled and turned people against each other, and against themselves.

Today I gave a final affectionate stroke to the TO:Ink orange neo-neoprene cover (taking care not to leave chocolate smears) and posted it off. It was an emotional parting at the post office this morning. I can’t wait to see the finished volume 🙂 there are a lot of other great writers contributing to it!! Now it’s on its way to the next author: my good friend Kenny Mooney (check out his work if you haven’t before, it’s brilliant)
